America is killing it at the Olympics

2010_winter_olympics_logo1It’s been hard to watch Olympic alpine skiing this year. It never seems to be on. Instead, it’s like NBC  broadcasts curling and ice dancing on a continuous loop. Then, when you actually do catch an alpine event, it’s not shown live, taking away from the excitement.

Here is one solution: get TiVo.

No money? check out www.fromsport.org and watch the Olympics you want LIVE. Awesome.

Now that we have that cleared up,we can celebrate the American alpine skiers who are absolutely crushing it this year! › Continue reading

Feeling the flow in 5 feet of snow!

It happened: It snowed — a lot. It snowed enough that we felt the need to blog about it. It snowed so much, for so long, that the dishes are piled up in the sink. The laundry needs to be done. Food needs to be purchased, and eaten. Showers need to be taken. Bills need to be paid. Emails and phone calls must be returned. But no, that can wait. Because it has snowed more than 5 feet in the past week, and continues to snow, so we will ski as much as possible until it stops. Here are some photos and video … › Continue reading

In this economy JUST KIDDING! We are just as tired of hearing people drop that jhaf-patchhi-resline as you. But it is December, and that means you have to buy stupid crap meaningful gifts for your family. And that is a good thing because experts have said the only way we are going to get ourselves out of “this economy” (<– sorry) is to start buying stuff. The best gift is one that deeply connects with the person who receives it. After the jump we have lined out a total of ten gifts for the skier in your life. Five are expensive fantasy gifts, five are realistic buys. All of the items are for the true core-skier. So buy something or get out!

Jackson Hole Opening Weekend

Jackson Hole opening weekend was this past weekend. Even though we did not get the 100+ inches that the PNW got we still had a great time. It was great to dust off the skis, get the legs moving, an be reminded of how to ski something other than powder !

mountainAlthough snowfall has been a bit grim, and everyone knows powdery opening days are way better than not powdery days, the kick-off to the ski season is, without fail, a festive event.  It signifies that the lifts are turning, all the familiar faces are stoked at the hill, the game is on … and that big storms and deep days are on the way.

Despite the low snow accumulations so far, both resorts reported strong skier numbers for opening weekend. The usual opening weekend scene ensued at JHMR, with Teewinot and Apres Vous lifts open.”

Warren Miller, Josh Berman and JK at Seattle Premiere

If you ever asked me whether I would be sitting backstage with Warren
Miller in the green room at a venue where Kurt and Jimi used to hang out, I
would say not a chance. But sure enough, Warren Miller came out to the double feature of Swift.Silent.Deep. and Refresh. Here’s what a few of the attendees had to say about our documentary ski film after hours at the King Cat Theater in Seattle on November 14, 2009.
